Homeland Security and Canada-U.S. Border Trade: Implications For Public Policy and Business Strategy

The conference sessions, for 120 business executives, government officials, and academics, will address bi-national dimensions of issues, identifying areas of both concordance and current or potential discord, and will seek to identify paths of further mutually beneficial cooperation. This forum for private sector-public sector exchange of ideas will serve to identify means of fully engaging the private sector in security efforts, initiate constructive policy action, and stimulate meaningful research.

Biennial Conference

ACSUS is pleased to host its 19th Biennial meeting in Toronto November 14-18, 2007. To recognize the occasion, we have adopted a special focus, Exemplar for the 21st Century: Toronto, Ontario, Canada to profile the diversity, dynamism, and progressive attitude of Canada and its cities and provinces.

The biennial conference provides a multidisciplinary forum for scholarly discussion as well as a venue for networking with colleagues from throughout the United States, Canada, and the world. The conference presents an opportunity for academics and other professionals involved in the study of Canada to present their research to peers, to learn about new developments in Canadian studies, to hear prominent Canadians, and to visit with publishers of books and periodicals relating to Canada and Canada-U.S. relations.

Border Regions in Transition (BRIT)

On January 12 - 15, 2008, the Border Policy Research Institute will co-host the BRIT IX Conference with the University of Victoria. The conference theme is "North American and European Border Regions in Comparative Perspective: Markets, States, Border Communities and Security." The conference seeks to bring together international scholars who have been researching borderlands and border security issues, offering a unique occasion for those scholars to discuss the current implications of new security measures on borders, border regions, borderland culture, economic transactions, transportation systems, and the border regimes of both the EU and the NAFTA nations. 2007 BTA Annual International Conference: Border.Security.Impact?

The 2007 Austin Conference will focus on three aspects concerning our borders: secure travel,secure freight and secure border. This event will not only service as a learning tool, but also provide conference participants the opportunity to network with both public and private sector leaders within the trade community. 2007 Ohio Conference on Freight

National borders should be secure, but national economic health requires that border commerce not be impeded by security concerns. The Homeland Security and Canada-U.S. Border Trade: Implications for Public Policy and Business Strategy conference is designed to assess American and Canadian security perspectives as it relates to Canada-U.S. border trade, review existing efforts to "keep the border closed to terrorists and open for trade," and identify economically and politically feasible public policy and private sector strategies to achieve a viable and sustainable balance between homeland security and economic security for both nations. Midwest Legislative Conference
Annual Meeting

The MLC Annual Meeting allows legislators from the eleven Midwestern states and three neighboring Canadian provinces to gather together and exchange ideas and information on key issues and common problems facing the states. Designed to better prepare participants for the challenges they face in their own legislatures, the business agenda typically includes a mix of issue-oriented programming and professional development opportunities. The chairmanship of the Midwestern Legislative Conference and the site of the MLC Annual Meeting rotate among the eleven Midwestern states.

The Montebello Summit and the Future of North America

The leaders of the three North American countries will meet August 20-21 in Montebello, Quebec for the third in a series of annual summits that have been held to oversee a process of trilateral negotiations on economic regulation and security procedures called the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America, or SPP. This conference will review the progress of the SPP negotiations, the status of relations among the three NAFTA partners, and look ahead to what may be next for North American economic integration and continental security. 10th Anniversary Transportation Summit

Federal, state, regional and local elected officials and industry professionals from across the country will unite in Irving, Texas, to discuss every mode of transportation and issues affecting highways, transit, high-speed rail, seaports, aviation, security, safety and financing.

This year's conference will offer more panel sessions and a new venue. It's hosted by the City of Irving, with support from its many sponsors and co-host cities, counties and transportation organizations from throughout the United States.
