The biennial conference provides a multidisciplinary forum for scholarly discussion as well as a venue for networking with colleagues from throughout the United States, Canada, and the world. The conference presents an opportunity for academics and other professionals involved in the study of Canada to present their research to peers, to learn about new developments in Canadian studies, to hear prominent Canadians, and to visit with publishers of books and periodicals relating to Canada and Canada-U.S. relations.

The MLC Annual Meeting allows legislators from the eleven Midwestern states and three neighboring Canadian provinces to gather together and exchange ideas and information on key issues and common problems facing the states. Designed to better prepare participants for the challenges they face in their own legislatures, the business agenda typically includes a mix of issue-oriented programming and professional development opportunities. The chairmanship of the Midwestern Legislative Conference and the site of the MLC Annual Meeting rotate among the eleven Midwestern states.
The Montebello Summit and the Future of North America

The leaders of the three North American countries will meet August 20-21 in Montebello, Quebec for the third in a series of annual summits that have been held to oversee a process of trilateral negotiations on economic regulation and security procedures called the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America, or SPP. This conference will review the progress of the SPP negotiations, the status of relations among the three NAFTA partners, and look ahead to what may be next for North American economic integration and continental security.
